Chronograph word is derived from the Greek words ‘chrnos and ‘graphos’. The word ‘chrnos’ means interval or the space of time and ‘graphos’ mean to record or note. The literal meaning of the word chronograph is to note or records an interval or space of time.

The invention of these watches was done by a Frenchman names Reiussec in 1821.In about 1910, chronograph which was referred as a stopwatch was introduced as wrist watch. In no time it became the most sought after watch. Swatch Company initiated the affordable and stylish chrono watches in the beginning of 1990. Slowly these watches started selling like hot cakes. Now chronograph is a part of almost all the reputable companies.

The analog chronographs performs the dual functions of showing the time an as a stopwatch. Te sub dials of these chronographs are used for the indication of the stopwatch minutes, seconds and hours. The digital chronograph features the digital display for the stopwatch and timekeeping functions. You can have separate displays or can have both the modes in one display area in a digital watch. The analog-digital chronographs are an amalgamation of two types of chronographs. These watches are designed with the permanent center for seconds and also as a standard analog watch.
